I hope that you are having a good week back to work and real life after Thanksgiving!
I always find it tough to buckle down and get “serious” after a holiday, but yesterday a
good friend gave me a great tip that’s had me hard at work all day and night. She suggested
working with glitter and now I’m glittering absolutely everything! While I was never big on
glitter as a kid, I am an avid admirer of Martha Stewart and she is, as you may know, the
Queen of glitter. There are many more paintings to come!
So what do you think, do you love glitter as much as I do? Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

I hope that you had a fantastic long weekend. My weekend was pretty great because my brother
Michael got married. I love my new sister-in-law and they had a really gorgeous wedding. I can’t
wait to show you of the paper details that I created for their big day. But first, here is some
wedding work that I created for another set of fabulous clients.

Morgan and Derek approached me looking for a unique invitation that combined traditional
elements in a modern suite. Along with the Directions card and RSVP, the couple had chosen
a lovely quotation to include on the invitation. To accommodate this, I created a custom
invitation design that had a separate space for the quotation and also served as a container
for the additional pieces. Details from the script of the monogram were used to create unity
throughout the suite.
Because Morgan decided to take Derek’s name, I created two monograms for the couple, one
with both of their surnames that was used before the ceremony and another based on the
same design that was used at the reception and for their Thank You cards.

Here’s a look at a watercolour and digital painting that I did for the 2011 Agenda. Because
you have sent such positive feedback on posts that include process work, I’m trying something
new this week! “This to That” is designed to show you my starting inspiration and finished
piece side-by-side. Some of you might recognize “This to That”, which is based off of one of my
favourite blog topics over at Oh Joy! Can’t wait to hear what you think!

My friend Ashley recently threw a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party for her daughter’s second birthday.
I was thrilled when she asked me to create some invitations to fit the theme. Take a look to
see some of the process work and the finished invitations.

Inspiration for the Invitation: 1 Original illustrations by John Tenniel. The line work in his
drawings inspired the pencil sketch style that was used for Lucy’s invitations. 2 Arthur
Rackman’s muted palette and darker depiction of Alice. 3 The colour palette for the
invitation. 4 Floral patterns like the designs on these teacups, were incorporated onto
the teapot, dress and number two.

I love the play on scale in Alice in Wonderland, so the invitation is teeny-tiny. The
card itself is just 3 x 5 inches. The process of opening the card was designed to be fun
and was accomplished by creating three separate illustrated pages that open to reveal
the invitation itself.
5 The first page leads you down the rabbit hole, with the caption “Don’t be late for this
very important date.” 6The second page shows the tea party and says “Today’s the
Day that Lu turns two”. 7 The final inside page reveals the content and details about the party.

I am very excited to announce that my artwork is now on display at Dwell Boutique in Kingston.
Dwell recently underwent a major renovation when the store was flooded just after Christmas.
The newly renovated space is really beautiful with great wooden shelving units and an open concept.
I was really thrilled to have my art included in its debut. Here are some of the pieces that are
included in the show.
The work will be up until the end of the month. Dwell Boutique is located at 207 Wellington Street
in downtown Kingston.

If you were watching the Golden Globes this weekend then you have already seen all of the
gorgeous gowns worn by this years’ attendees. I was so inspired by the fashions at the event,
that I decided to recreate my favourite look as a watercolour illustration. I don’t think that
its any secret that I love pink, and Claire Danes’ gorgeous blush pink dress
by Francisco Costa at Calvin Klein was my top pick. The dress draped so beautifully and I
knew it would be really fun to paint. Working with these pretty pinks has made me very excited
for Spring’s new Honeysuckle hues. Hope you enjoy and have a great day!

Have you been having a good week? I hope so. This week has been a busy one for me.
Last weekend, I set up as part of the Hotshot Holiday Pop-Up Shop in Kensington Market.
The event is called “Handmade, Handpicked” and features a selection of work by Toronto
designers and artisans. They threw a fantastic opening party on Thursday night, which
gave me a chance to browse and shop through the other artist’s work. (I left with a really
amazing floral scarf and a knitted headband.) Hotshot also serves very delicious coffee,
so you have another great reason to visit!
Hotshot is located at 181 Augusta Ave., off Dundas St. in Kensington Market, (See Map)
and the Pop-Up Shop will be open until December 23rd.

It’s almost December, which means….. advent calendars! I don’t know about you, but I’ve
been patiently waiting to dig into mine for almost a month now. December is also a good time
to start thinking about calendars of the non-chocolate variety. So with this in mind, I’d
like to introduce a new addition to my line of paper products! This 2011 wall calendar hangs
from a pretty ribbon that’s tied (and stitched) in a bow. I’m so pleased with how this calendar
turned out! With lots of new illustrations and lovely colours I hope that you will like it too!
The calendar is available at HOTSHOT in Kensington Market (in Toronto) and will soon be
available at Dwell Boutique in Kingston. You can also purchase online on Etsy or through
my shop.
